Leedstown has a rich history in cricket that dates back to the 19th century, with documentation suggesting that the club has been active since at least 1857. This positions us among the oldest cricket clubs in West Cornwall, and still going strong!
Under the name of Leedstown Albion the team thrived on the cricket pitch. In the 1920's the club competed within the Eastern Division of the West Penwith Cricket league against local villages such as Lelant, Townsend, Gulval, Crowlas, 'Resudian' and Goldsithney. After the Second World War, Leedstown were one of only five cricket clubs left in West Cornwall.
The team has seen success over the years including the County Champions of Divison 1 Senior II County Cup in 1983, Western Division Champions in 1979 and 1984, and have produced many county cricketers.
An avid cricketer himself, and captain for over 40 years, the late Mr David Goldsworthy of Truthwall Farm assisted the club in acquiring part of his land, which was officially transferred over in 1988. The soil at the 'Lion's Den' is medium loam and clay, making it a great base for playing cricket on, and continues to this day to be loved and cared for by the voluntary groundsmen.

There are far too many legends to list that that have contributed to the club over the years, not to mention the incredibly important scrorers, and all of those organising the teas over the years, which continues thankfully to this day.
Gracing the fields, the club has to pay respect to the likes of David ‘Crocket’ Goldsworthy, alongside great local families such the Smitherams, Christophers, Hoskins, and of course Leedstown Cricket cannot be mentioned in the same breath without the mighty Dougie Oats. This man could not only command the field, showed his batting prowess, but also demonstrated what it takes to be a true Leedstown Legend.
